Peaceful Sunday

I grew up in a little church. It is where I learned about Jesus, that He died for me, and that He loves me. This is where I learned to pray; this is where I saw the power of prayer at work. This is where I sat every Sunday in the pew next to my grandmother; this is where I was confirmed and where I learned to sing harmony with my family. This is where I was married and where I fell in love with my church community.

Today, my prayer warriors gathered and had a special prayer for me for complete healing from cancer. Unfortunately, I was unable to go due to my compromised immune system; I have to be careful in crowds at the moment. My son is getting married in twenty days, and my goal since day one of this cancer diagnosis has been to be in the front row and be a witness at my son’s wedding. I will be there.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart to all prayer warriors. They are angels, and they never stop praying. The power of prayer is strong and mighty. Prayer works, miracles happen.

A Mother's heart - Sunday

On May 14th, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. My mother has kneeled in prayer every day since my diagnosis and begged Jesus to let her trade places with me. Being a mother myself, I understand her heartbreak and her prayer. This week my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer. What? I don't know why I'm surprised; God answers prayer. I saw her yesterday, and her prognosis is good. After we cried together, I had to have the #faithoverfear talk with her. "Mama, now that we are in this together, we have to fight together."

I also asked her if we could pray a different prayer.

Heavenly Father,
I know you are not a God that makes deals. You are a loving God that loves us and holds us. Heavenly Father, we are praying for 2 miracles, one for me and one for my mama. I pray for your continued protection from our cancers, help us stay strong, and heal us completely. Heavenly Father, please let your goodness and light shine through us; I am asking in Jesus’ name that we continue to be brave and trust you completely as we fight this disease together. This mother and daughter, along with our husbands and children, and friends, are asking for complete healing from cancer.

In your holy name, Amen.

This is the most priceless piece of art in my collection—A copy of Picasso's Mother and Child by Henry Africano, 2000. He was recently at the Art Institute Museum, enjoying a date with his fiancé, and I received this beautiful text.

In sickness and in health...

Celebrating 44 years of marriage today. This anniversary looks different because I am fighting ovarian cancer, but It doesn’t feel different. Husband and I work together, play together and pray together, and now we fight cancer together. He’s got me. Faith over fear!

I love you
